ATLAS - A Trauma Lens Across Schools | Alannah & Madeline Foundation Skip to main content

What is ATLAS?

ATLAS offers a comprehensive approach to mental health in primary and secondary schools, building Educators' capability to better understand and support the social, emotional and educational development of students who have experienced trauma and vulnerabilities.

The program equips Educators (including all school staff) with the tools and understanding needed to support students impacted by vulnerabilities, fostering opportunities for recovery and healing while creating safe and supportive learning environments.

Working hand-in-hand with Educators

Our consultants provide collaborative, tailored and context-specific support, working hand-in-hand with Educators.

Integrating trauma, attachment, and child development theories, our consultants deliver effective strategies that address the impacts of trauma and vulnerabilities, helping students overcome barriers to learning and increase their participation in school.

Why a trauma-informed approach in schools is important

Our trauma-informed approach benefits all students, Educators and families by promoting co-regulation and supporting behaviours related to trauma, adversity, school participation, and transitions at school.

The impact and benefits of ATLAS

By working closely with schools and educators across time, ATLAS:

  • helps school staff use a trauma lens to understand and be sensitive to the impact of trauma and how it may show up in student’s behaviour
  • builds skills and confidence to respond to challenging behaviours.
  • uses a ‘trauma lens’ to nurture Educator wellbeing, reducing burnout and isolation
  • fosters a trauma-sensitive environment, promoting emotional and physical safety.
The ATLAS program enhances Educators’ wellbeing and can help prevent vicarious trauma, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to foster self-awareness, self-care, resilience, and collaborative support. This empowers staff to create trauma-informed environments that prioritise the wellbeing of both themselves and the students in their care.
