About eSmart | Alannah & Madeline Foundation Skip to main content

eSmart is for everyone who wants to help the next generation thrive online.

eSmart gives schools, educators and families the tools they need to help keep students safe, smart and responsible in the digital world. It’s free, aligned with the national curriculum and updated regularly.

eSmart resources are easy to access, use and integrate in a range of educational settings. The content is evidence-based, regularly refreshed and co-designed with students and teachers to ensure it is always engaging and relevant.

With professional development and a whole-school approach, everyone can improve their essential digital- and media-literacy skills.

Students learnt a lot about being safe online and it promoted great discussion in the class.

We need to be teaching students how to stay safe online before anything happens, not in reaction to something bad happening.

Children encounter digital technology from a young age. One-third of children aged six to 13 own a smartphone, and there is a clear need to teach them how to use this technology safely and responsibly. eSmart helps educators and school communities achieve this through resources and lesson plans that are evidence-based, age-appropriate, and aligned with the national curriculum.

Anyone can view, download and use eSmart modules and resources for free.

From social interactions to education and job opportunities, our children’s world is increasingly online. eSmart gives them the tools and confidence to navigate that world safely and responsibly.

eSmart is an initiative of the Alannah & Madeline Foundation. It was designed by digital literacy and online safety experts and informed by a co-design process with educators, students, and parents.

eSmart is completely funded by the Australian Government, so all the materials are free to view, use and download.

eSmart offers learning modules designed for children in Foundation through to Year 9. However, educators can explore how these resources can support students in other year levels, too.

All eSmart learning resources are aligned with the Australian National Curriculum v9. They are informed by multiple evidence-based learning frameworks, such as the eSafety Commissioner’s Best Practice Framework for Online Safety Education. Detailed information about how each of the modules aligns with specific learning areas and year levels can be found on the pages for individual programs and modules.
